Setting Goals You’re Destined To Achieve

Setting Goals You're Destined To Achieve

Hi friends! So hopefully you’ve read my first post in this series which was all about determining your own personal values. Check it out if you haven’t yet read through it. It will give you a better understanding of why your values are so important in setting goals.

Setting Goals You're Destined To Achieve

Ok – so now that we’re all on the same page, what are some of your biggest values? Family, community, creativity, beauty? I’m guessing that we have some that overlap and that you have some that are unique to you.

How would your life look if you always put these values first? What would your ideal life look like?

The first couple of times I did this exercise, it felt weird. I was uncomfortable “making up” a future version of my life. It seemed silly and like it didn’t really matter if I skipped over this part. But in reality, I think I was afraid to let go of some control and let my mind wander. Over a few years I was able to practice this several times and in 2012 I visualized a version of my life that is so similar to what I have now, it gives me goosebumps. I thought is was impossible, that in 5 short years I would have attained 90% of what my ideal life looked like.

So if you’re up for it, take a note book, a few minutes (and maybe a cup of tea) and start to write your vision for your life in 10 years. Here are some questions to get the ball rolling.

Where are you? In your home? In another country? In a busy city or a quiet cabin?

Who is with you? Are you alone, with friends or maybe with a husband and children that you haven’t even met yet?

What does your work life look like? Do you have a team of people that are supporting you in bringing your product vision to life or are you happily sewing away in your studio – alone?

How do you regenerate and recharge yourself? Do you run, meditate, play in the ocean, go dancing?

Try and write for a full 5 minutes (or more!) without stopping. This should be enough time to help you get the initial ideas on paper and move into something a little deeper that maybe you didn’t even know was there.

Ok – go do it – and come back.

Welcome back! How was it? Anything unexpected, exciting, scary? That’s the good stuff! Now let’s take it and build it into concrete goals. You will want to write your goals so that they are Specific and Time Bound. This will help you stay focused and clear so you are able to check them off and move on to the next goal.

Personal Goal

First let’s start with your personal goals. Here is an example of one of my personal goals so you get a feeling for what it could look like.

I own an ocean front cabin by April 2023.

Exciting right? What did you see in your vision that blew you away? A specific home? A family? A certain city that you live in? Get specific. Write down three things you saw and the date you will achieve them by.

Business Goals

Next what are your business goals and how do they support your personal goals? How much time are you spending on your business to bring you your ideal life? Look at both how much money you want to be making and how many hours you want to be spending on the work. What does the work look like? Do you travel the world or work from a home studio?

For both your Personal and Business goals, keep in mind your core values.

Make sure that your goals support these. Your values are your REASON for working so hard. If your values and goals aren’t aligned, you are going to find it incredible hard to keep going when the road get’s tough. And, if you plan to get up to great things, believe me, it will get tough.

I’d love it if you shared your goals over in the your atic private Facebook Group. Goals become so much more real when we say them out loud and have a community of that can support us.

xoxo

Lisa
